Getting to Emerald Lake

The easiest way to get to Emerald Lake is by car. Start with Yoho National Park’s far east side located on the Trans-Canada highway. You can either take highway 1 from Vancouver or Calgary and then turn off towards Field, prior to which you will pass through Golden, BC. From Field, the road continues onto Takakkaw Falls Road from where you will find signs indicating directions to Emerald Lake Lodge. Then follow the Kicking Horse River upstream until you get to the parking lot of your destination. Another option is hiking! There are lots of hiking trails around the area leading up to Emerald Lake that offer varied levels of intensity depending on your preference. Most popular are the hikes ranging from one-hour easy walks around the lake edge or six-hour strenuous hikes up Mt. Burgess Hill for an even better view!
